The North Island winter ski season usually lasts from July to November each year. Mt
Ruapehu is a mere 40 kilometres from
Waimarama Lodge. Its two ski areas,
Whakapapa and
Turoa, attract skiers from throughout New Zealand and from overseas. Accommodation close to the ski fields is at a premium during the season and not always available.
Waimarama offers a sensible alternative, allowing you to drive back from a day on the slopes in about half an hour, to enjoy the apres-ski warmth of a piping hot cascade shower and an open fire.
